Airstream Redux

Vacation made Dave realize that he NEEDED a laptop computer. He'd been hinting around for awhile to me that he wanted one and - oh how great life would be with a laptop! We had one years ago. It broke. We fixed it. It broke again. We fixed it again. It broke again. We stopped fixing it. But when it worked it was nice to sit on the couch and surf the web, as opposed to at a desk to surf the web.

So on vacation, Dave sat in his brother's house on the couch, next to the fire, with a beer in his hand in the evening or a coffee in his hand in the morning and using Dan's laptop checked his email, his flickr site and any other regular-ritual sites that he goes to each day (like this one, right Dave?) and he enjoyed himself greatly!

Flash to this weekend, where he toted us to the store to purchase the new family laptop. He brought it home, set it up, used it on the couch, tried to fit it in all of his carry bags and then said..."It's too big. We're taking it back." It was too big! The 17inch monitor was nice, but unwieldy to manage while relaxing on the sofa and utterly unportable as it did not fit in any of our bags. So back to the store and we now own, Laptop II.

Everyday will be like vacation!

So what'd you guys get?! I *downsized* to this little guy after the ol' 15.4" acer's disk died. I traded the ol' acer to a dude at coffee exchange (without the hard disk) in exchange for 3 pounds of coffee!

I haven't the foggiest of ideas what kind the new laptop is. All I know is that it is NOT a MAC... therefore it is irrelevant.

Well... I'll still use it of course... don't get me wrong here... your still going to let me use it, right Dave?!?! I like the new laptop, really I do.

Well from your photo I'm guessing that this is the "old" 17" laptop - looks like an hp, b/c I recognize the remote control from the sticker on bottom of the keypad (my new 14.1" laptop is an hp). I have the same remote! Of course I couldn't tell you where it is right now...

(I seem to have again misplaced my blogger log-in info...)

The shortly owned initial laptop was a sweet 17” HP/AMD deal with a monitor that was great for photo editing and Autocad work but like Michelle noted you really couldn’t sit on a couch with it and it didn’t come close to fitting into a messenger bag or my camera/laptop bag. The replacement unit is a 15” HP/Intel laptop. I do miss the slightly higher resolution (total pixel height and width) of the 17” screen but this new laptop is much more manageable.

I am digging Vista from a networking standpoint – it plays well with the Mac. I was able to see the hardware resources installed on the Mac and print to the printers attached to the Mac without any special configuration!

Yay new computer! Glad you didn't hem and haw as much as I did. Which HP did you end up going with? Do we have the same computer? Mine is the dv5t I think.

I'll check tonight but 5v5t sounds like the one.
